NEW YORK (Reuters Health)
reported – “Having salmon for dinner is not just good for your heart, it may
also improve your disposition, according to a University of Pittsburgh
study. It found that omega-3 fatty acids, which are plentiful in fatty fish
like salmon, seem to affect areas of the brain associated with emotion”.
Research from
others, find that Oxytocin and vasopressin were discovered, isolated and
synthesized by Vincent du Vigneaud in 1953, work for which he received the
Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1955.
Oxytocin and
vasopressin are the only known hormones released by the human posterior
pituitary gland to act at a distance. Secretion of oxytocin is from the
neuro-secretary nerve endings and is regulated by the electrical activity of
the oxytocin cells in the hypothalamus.
Oxytocin is also
made by some neurons in the para-ventricular nucleus that project to other
parts of the brain and to the spinal cord.
Oxytocin
(Greek word meaning: "quick birth") is a mammalian hormone that also acts as
a neurotransmitter in the brain. In women, it is released mainly after
distension of the cervix and vagina during labor, and after stimulation of
the nipples, facilitating birth and breastfeeding, respectively. Oxytocin is
released during orgasm in both sexes. In the brain, oxytocin is involved in
social recognition and bonding, and might be involved in the formation of
mood and trust between people.
In another study, Dr. Sarah M.
Conklin team previously observed that people with lower blood levels of
omega-3 fatty acids were more apt to have a negative outlook and to be more
impulsive, while those with higher levels typically were more agreeable and
less likely to exhibit a sour mood.
In their latest study, Conklin
and colleagues set out to see whether the volume of gray matter in the
brain, especially in areas related to mood, was proportionally related to
the amount of omega-3 fatty acid consumed.
They asked 55 healthy adults
about their average intake of omega-3 fatty acids and used MRI bran scans to
determine gray matter volume.
As the researchers theorized, the
higher the intake of omega-3 the larger were the volumes of gray matter in
areas of the brain associated with mood and regulation of emotion.
These findings
hint that omega-3s may contribute to structural improvement in areas of the
brain related to emotion -- the same areas where gray matter is
reduced in people with mood
disorders such as depression.
Omega 3’s and Autism is thought
to be connected, because several neurological diseases including Autism, is
thought to be caused by heavy metal crossing the brain barrier penetrating
unhealthy cell membranes. Omega-3’s having been generally removed from our
food sources since about the 1950’s, to increase shelf life, cause unhealthy
cell membranes to be produced; and easily penetrated by heavy metals and
unknown pathogens of various types.
Mothers who were themselves
raised on processed foods, which are robbing her of her long chain fatty
acid Omega-3’s, can have unhealthy babies. Her body produces unhealthy cells
and she produces a baby likely to be troubled with any number of
neurological diseases; ADD, ADHD, Autism or Parkinson’s.
A healthy cell membrane that is
difficult for heavy metals and unknown pathogens to penetrate is made up of,
Omega-3’s, Omega-6’s, Omega-9’s, Cholesterol and Arachadonic Acid. When we
rob the system of the Omega-3 long chain fatty acids, the body must scramble
to survive. So it makes a short chain trans fatty acid in the place. This
short chain trans fatty acid is HDL and LDL cholesterol. Are you surprised?
Don’t the pharmaceutical companies tell you that this is Good and Bad
cholesterol? When in fact, HDL and LDL, is Bad and Worse cholesterol.
